Character Questionnaire

1.      What do you do best? Take care of myself, because there has never been anyone else.

2.      How would you describe yourself in one sentence? Don’t mess with me or I’ll knock you on your arse!

3.      What do you like least and best about the person you are? There’s nothing wrong with me. Who said there was? Okay, if I’m honest with you, I may be a bit of a control freak, but if you’re a woman who needs protecting from an abusive man, then you’ve come to the right place.

4.      Where do you call home? I thought moving from one side of Adelaide to the other would be far enough to out run my past. I was mistaken.

5.      What makes you laugh out loud? Luca when he’s all bashful and gentlemanly. What a spunk!

6.      What makes you really angry? Men who beat women.

7.      How do you feel about authority figures, like the police? They’re necessary in the community, but the law didn’t keep my mum safe. They always let Jack Roach back out of the lockup.

8.      Who do you wish you were closest to? Doing the horizontal tango with that hot detective from down the road would have to be at the top of my list.

9.      Do you have a secret? The list is long, but they’re not really secrets if they’re no-one else’s business, right? I figure that if I keep to myself, the world will let me be. Pity it doesn’t seem to work that way.

10.  What is your greatest regret? Not getting Mum out of Jack Roach’s house.

11.  What is your most prized possession? My Triumph Speed Triple motorcycle. It’s black and red, loud and full of grunt. Riding it and feeling the wind on my face gives me a sense of freedom.

12.  On what occasion would you lie? Maybe you should ask when I wouldn’t. Nah, just kidding. I don’t much reason to fib, but I’m not one to volunteer information unnecessarily, either. A girl has to look after number one you know. You can take me at face value.

13.  What is your greatest achievement? Dragging myself out of the gutter I grew up in.

14.  What is your greatest fear? Letting my guard down long enough for a man to get under my skin.

15.  Tell us a memory of childhood? When I was in primary school, I bought Mum a glossy, black jewellery box from a second hand shop. She said it was the best birthday present ever and we used to imagine visiting the menagerie of African animals painted on the lid. We imagined daring to get so close to a lion that the hairs on the backs of our necks stood on end, and looking up at a strange giraffe with its long lips, doe eyes, and not-quite horns.

16.  Have you been in love and had a broken heart? There’s no past tense, my heart is still broken from losing Mum.

17.  Do you believe in luck? There are no silver spoons in Croydon. I make my own way in the world through blood, sweat and tears.

18.  What would you do to save someone you love? Throw myself under a bus, if I knew it was coming… And therein lies the problem with saving someone.

19.  What is your idea of happiness? A gourmet meal made with fresh produce from my garden, eaten in the peace of my own home. Sometimes it would be nice to have a little company though.

20.  What is the strangest thing to happen to you? Discovering that I have something other women need. I’m happy to share it, but my services are not for sale. Can you guess what it is? Pick up a copy of ‘Inheriting Fear’ and find out.

What is the worst thing that has ever happened to you?


When my Mother died, my whole world imploded. Dad falling apart didn’t help either. It’s made harder when you have to drag yourself to school every day, feel everyone staring at you, whispering. Not that I care.

What do you do best?

Running. Fast. Quickest (non powered) way to anywhere else.



Do you have a secret?

I have a few, but if I told you, I’d have to kill you.

On what occasion would you lie?

Is that just a little white lie? Or a whopping, fact altering web of deceit? It would certainly depend on the circumstances. If it meant lying to talk someone down off a life threatening ledge, then yeah, I’d consider it.




Tell us a memory of childhood?

I remember going to the Georgia Aquarium with Mum when I was about 7 or 8. I got bitten by a turtle.




What is the strangest thing to happen to you?


Man, I could write a book on that one. Where to start, firstly I meet this gorgeous girl, I don’t just mean gorgeous, but stunning. Most beautiful girl I ever saw. Then within days of meeting her, turns out her family was cursed and so men that marry into the family end up dead. Nice. Then, my house catches on fire and all kinds of magical hell breaks loose.

What A Character! - Sophia from Behind the Courtesan

Today we have Bronwyn Stuart's character from Behind the Courtesan being interviewed.

Character Questionnaire


1.What is the worst thing that has ever happened to you?

My father sold me to a Duke for a neighboring farm when I was just 14 years old. I was forced to flee into the night, broken, beaten and battered. That one event made the nightmares that followed seem more like pleasant daydreams.

2. How would you describe yourself in one sentence?

I can do it in one word. Resilient.



3. Do you have a secret?

As a courtesan I have plenty of my own secrets but more of the men of the ton’s than they’ll ever comprehend. It’s always good to have a backup plan in the form of an indiscretion or crime committed. It’s interesting what men will confess to one they think is loyal to only them.

4. On what occasion would you lie?

On any occasion that it saves my own neck.



5. What is your greatest achievement?

My greatest achievement is that I lived. I’m a survivor and no one will take that away from me.



6. What is your greatest fear?

I have so many but the greatest is that I will never be accepted. I fear I’ll never find a place in my world where I actually fit and can be content.

What a Character is here with you again.
This month we have Leesa giving us an insight into a character in her manuscript


From: Winning the Player by Leesa Bow

Genre: New Adult/Contemporary Romance/Sport

Character: Aubree Taylor

Age: 20 years old.

Set in Adelaide, South Australia.

1. What is the worst thing that has ever happened to you?

Two things have impacted my life.

The first when I was twelve, my father died in his sleep, resulting from an overdose of prescription drugs mixed with alcohol. He was an alcoholic but not the abusive type. It was a difficult time, especially seeing my Mum extremely distraught so I threw myself into basketball and trained everyday to block out the pain.

The second incident happened when I was seventeen. I injured my knee playing basketball for South Australia in a National tournament. It wasn’t just any injury. I’d ruptured my anterior, medial and lateral ligaments, after going up for a rebound and landing off balance while my opponents knee crashed into mine causing it to buckle and hyperextend. I remember crumbling to the ground screaming in pain.

The damage snowballed from physical to life changing.

Everyone believed I could make a come back and return to an elite level. It was my physiotherapist and surgeon who yanked me back to reality, emphasising how tough it would be and how I’d have to work three times harder.

The devastation wore down all my mental strength and I didn’t see the point. Swamped by so many positive people believing I could make a come back only pushed me further away. To disappoint myself was one thing but let down those who loved and believed in me a whole different ball game. So I pretended to be over basketball with a new interest of seeing the world, creating new adventures, and finding out who I really was.

Subsequently I took off overseas for the next two years.

2. How would you describe yourself in one sentence?

Tall, slim, long brown hair, and green eyes like my mother; lacking self-confidence like my father.

3. What makes you laugh out loud? 
My best friend Maddy. She has a great sense of humour and claims it’s her Irish heritage. I think it’s her temper and having a smart mouth along with not being afraid of anyone.

4. What is your greatest fear? 
To have my heart broken.

5. What do you hate? 
Arrogance.

Especially arrogant athletes like some football players.

6. What is your idea of happiness?

Being surrounded by family and close friends.

Finding inner peace and a sense of belonging.

And of course true love! Secretly I’ve always enjoyed reading the steamy romance books under my mother’s bed. They have kindled a yearning for happy-ever-after.
